Identify the limit before changing your network
The official FAQ distinguishes limited receiver categories from supported non-proprietary open-source receivers. Reconnecting after a limited session is allowed. A repeatable ten-minute cutoff in free mode is therefore not, by itself, evidence of a bug.
Match the remedy to the symptom
| Symptom | Next step |
|---|---|
| Repeatable cutoff in free mode | Review the vendor’s free/full receiver table. Its official upgrade is the route to remove the license restriction. |
| Already paid | Check activation on this PC and contact the vendor about the license before buying again. |
| Random dropouts or no discovery | Investigate networking and receiver access. A license upgrade does not repair discovery. |
If you do not want to upgrade TuneBlade
For iTunes content alone, its built-in AirPlay may be enough. For Windows default-output audio, ToneRelay offers a seven-day local trial and a USD $14.99 permanent Pro license plus applicable taxes. Test your HomePod, apps and delay before buying. Open-source and broader-device options are compared below.

Who publishes this comparison, and how can you verify it?
ToneRelay publishes this page and develops the ToneRelay app. This comparison helps you choose by device, connection direction and required features. It is not an independent review or a performance ranking.
Other products are described using the vendor sources linked on this page; a citation does not imply vendor endorsement. Source review dates can differ from this page’s update date, which does not mean every product was tested again today. Check the original sources and trial audible playback, reconnection and delay on your own equipment before buying.
Our October 15, 2026 check could not retrieve the TuneBlade home page or FAQ. This does not establish availability on other networks. Its current pricing, maintenance and new-firmware compatibility remain unconfirmed; distinguish historical references from verified current facts.
Frequently asked questions
Which HomePod models does ToneRelay support?
ToneRelay supports the full HomePod lineup: HomePod (1st generation), HomePod (2nd generation), and HomePod mini. Play Windows 10/11 x64 default-output audio on a configured HomePod over the same reachable local network. ToneRelay has been tested with HomePod software 27.
Is a ten-minute disconnect necessarily a bug?
No. Check the free-mode receiver restriction first. Random connection failures need separate troubleshooting.
What should I check before switching?
Test discovery, sustained playback, delay and local PC output behavior with your actual speaker. Price alone does not establish compatibility.
