ToneRelay vs TuneBlade for Windows HomePod playback
ToneRelay is a focused Windows-to-HomePod local-network audio tool. This factual comparison helps users evaluating TuneBlade and ToneRelay choose for their actual receiver and workflow.
All HomePod models supported
ToneRelay supports the full HomePod lineup: HomePod (1st generation), HomePod (2nd generation), and HomePod mini.
Play Windows 10/11 x64 default-output audio on a configured HomePod over the same reachable local network. ToneRelay has been tested with HomePod software 27.
| HomePod model | ToneRelay support |
|---|---|
| HomePod (1st generation) | Playback supported |
| HomePod (2nd generation) | Playback supported |
| HomePod mini | Playback supported |
Tested with HomePod software version 27
ToneRelay has been tested with HomePod software version 27 for Windows 10/11 default-output playback to HomePod on the same local network. After an update, distinguish missing discovery, failed connections and no sound, then check networking, speaker access and audio output. Trial your own setup and verify other senders separately with the current firmware.
Which option fits your needs?
ToneRelay is an option for Windows default audio on HomePod or HomePod mini, with a seven-day trial. It is not a replacement for every TuneBlade receiver or workflow. Current TuneBlade pricing and compatibility with Windows 11 and new HomePod firmware remain unverified here. Trial each setup before buying; a failed website fetch does not prove the product is discontinued.
Before buying: verify on the same setup
ToneRelay publishes this comparison and has a commercial interest. We have not performed independent hardware comparisons. Record your own trial results using the checks below before deciding to pay.
| Check | Record | Pass condition |
|---|---|---|
| Devices and versions | Windows build, app version, HomePod model and firmware, network connection. | The current app supports your required receiver and features. |
| Discovery and sound | Use the same PC, speaker, network and local audio clip; record discovery, connection and audible playback separately. | The intended speaker is found and plays sound, not merely a Playing label. |
| Daily workflow | Usual apps, pause/resume, reconnection, local PC output and video lip sync. | Workflow and delay suit your use; good music playback does not prove video or gaming sync. |
| Purchase terms | Official checkout’s regional price, taxes, license scope, trial and refund terms. | Confirm cost and limits before paying. ToneRelay permanent Pro is USD $14.99 plus applicable taxes. |
Source checks and dates
On October 2, 2026, we checked ToneRelay 0.1.0 public features and its price contract. WinAirCast’s website described AirPlay 1/2, per-app and multi-room support, a 15-day Store trial and one-time purchase on that date. These are vendor statements, not measurements from this comparison. Check the Store for regional pricing.
Another attempt to retrieve TuneBlade’s FAQ on October 2, 2026 timed out. Official indexed material reviewed September 9 is historical reference; current price, maintenance commitments, Windows 11 and new-firmware compatibility were not confirmed. Sources for other tools retain their September 9 review; this is not a fresh verification of every product.

Windows 11, protocols and delay: verify before buying
| Question | Known and unknown |
|---|---|
| Windows 11 and HomePod mini | ToneRelay supports Windows 10/11 x64 and HomePod/mini. Trial the exact current TuneBlade/device combination. |
| AirPlay 1/2 | ToneRelay does not support AirPlay 1 or multi-room. TuneBlade’s AirPlay label alone does not establish current HomePod firmware compatibility. |
| Delay, local speakers and installation | Compare with the same speaker. No head-to-head measurements here establish speed, stability or identical local-mute behavior. |
| Maintenance and price | Current TuneBlade maintenance commitments and checkout price were not verified. A version label or failed page fetch does not prove abandonment. |
