ToneRelay is tested with HomePod software 27

ToneRelay has been tested for Windows default-output playback to HomePod running HomePod software version 27 on the same local network. The number 27 refers to the speaker software; see the download page for the ToneRelay app version. This compatibility statement is based on testing reported by the ToneRelay team and was added on October 10, 2026.

Compatibility scope and checks before buying

ToneRelay supports Windows 10/11 x64 and all HomePod models: HomePod (1st generation), HomePod (2nd generation) and HomePod mini. Model support and software-version compatibility are separate; software 27 support does not establish testing of every network or future firmware. Stereo pairs, multi-room and Apple TV remain outside the supported scope. Use the seven-day trial to check discovery, connection, sound and your usual apps on your own setup.

Check the HomePod software version and connect

  1. On the iPhone/iPad used to set up HomePod, open the Home app and check the software version in HomePod settings. Labels can vary by system version.
  2. Keep the Windows 10/11 PC and HomePod on the same reachable local network, avoiding guest networks and client isolation.
  3. Check Home settings for speaker access from devices on your trusted local network and check ToneRelay’s Windows Firewall permissions.
  4. Open ToneRelay, refresh devices and select HomePod. Play audio through Windows default output, wait for Playing and confirm audible sound.

HomePod appears but playback will not startConfirm speaker access and the selected device. Reopen the app, restart HomePod if needed and test the connection with the ToneRelay trial.
Connected with no soundConfirm the source app uses Windows default output, audio is playing and both Windows and HomePod volumes are audible.
Repeated disconnectsCheck Wi-Fi, PC sleep and network changes. Record Windows, HomePod software and sender app versions to narrow down the issue.
Another sender fails after the updateAsk its vendor about current firmware support or trial ToneRelay with the same PC, speaker and network. One failure does not establish that all competitors lack version 27 support.
