ToneRelay support: Coming soon · Model verification pending
IKEA SYMFONISK on Windows: PC audio options
ToneRelay support for IKEA SYMFONISK is coming soon. These Sonos network speakers need different routes for supported music content and live Windows audio. Bookshelf, table lamp, picture frame and floor lamp models await model-specific verification.
Quick answer
Support for more AirPlay speakers is coming soon. IKEA SYMFONISK uses Sonos network audio, not ordinary Bluetooth audio or AUX input. Use supported Sonos services or shared music files; live Windows audio needs a compatible sender. Bookshelf, table lamp, picture frame and floor lamp models are all Planned for ToneRelay.
Get ready for upcoming AirPlay speaker support
We are preparing an upcoming ToneRelay release for additional AirPlay speakers. Exact model support will be announced after real-device verification.
- Find your exact model in the compatibility table. Coming soon does not mean every listed model or configuration has been verified.
- When support is released, check the required ToneRelay version, speaker firmware and supported setup for your model.
- Use the shared ToneRelay download once your model is verified. A Pro purchase does not unlock an unverified device in the current release.
- Check actual audible playback, reconnection and acceptable delay on your own PC and network before relying on the setup.
Wi-Fi audio rather than a conventional PC speaker input
The SYMFONISK bookshelf, table lamp, picture frame and floor lamp speakers use network audio. They do not offer ordinary Bluetooth audio or AUX input for a Windows PC. A lamp’s lighting function, or a bookshelf speaker’s Ethernet port, does not provide a PC audio input. Identify the exact speaker and generation before choosing a connection route.
What Windows can play through IKEA Sonos speakers
After setting up the speaker using the mobile Sonos app, a Windows Sonos desktop controller can browse supported music content and control playback. A shared Windows music library is another route for stored songs. These methods do not transmit all PC sound: live browser video, games and other desktop apps need a separate system-audio sender. Windows does not supply a general AirPlay output picker for SYMFONISK.
Practical SYMFONISK PC audio routes
| Listening task | Route to consider | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Music service playback | Add a supported service in Sonos or use its own Sonos integration. | Music from that service rather than all audio playing on the PC. |
| Songs saved on a Windows PC | Share the folder and add it to the Sonos music library. | Stored, indexed music; not live system audio. |
| Live PC audio on SYMFONISK | Evaluate a Windows AirPlay sender with explicit support for your exact model. | Requires receiver and firmware checks. ToneRelay support remains unverified. |
| Content on an Apple device | Set up the SYMFONISK speaker and select it in the Apple device’s AirPlay menu. | An Apple-device playback route; not proof of a Windows sender working. |
SYMFONISK AirPlay and home-theater limits
IKEA documents AirPlay 2 playback after Sonos setup, and Sonos lists the bookshelf, lamp and picture frame variants as receivers. AirPlay support does not make a speaker a native Windows sound device. A SYMFONISK speaker assigned as a Sonos home-theater surround cannot be selected directly for AirPlay. Sonos grouping or stereo features do not imply that a Windows sender implements them. ToneRelay currently has no stereo-pair or multi-room support.
ToneRelay support is coming soon
ToneRelay support for more AirPlay speakers is coming soon. This device has not yet been verified. Current compatibility is not guaranteed.
We are preparing an upcoming ToneRelay release for additional AirPlay speakers. Exact model support will be announced after real-device verification.
All HomePod models are already supported in the current release. Official AirPlay capability alone does not establish ToneRelay compatibility for additional devices. Planned is the model-level verification state until real-device playback is confirmed.

Identify the model before comparing results
Check the product label and Sonos system details for the speaker type and generation. Record whether it is a standalone room, a stereo pair or a home-theater surround. A Bookshelf Gen 1 result cannot establish a Bookshelf Gen 2 or Table Lamp result. Also distinguish the Floor Lamp Speaker from a bookshelf speaker mounted on a floor stand; they are different entries in the device roadmap.
Official connection references
SYMFONISK Bookshelf Gen 1 and Gen 2 with a Windows PC
Both bookshelf generations need a Sonos network playback route rather than a PC headphone cable. A wired Ethernet connection can help network reachability, but is not an analog input. For stored songs use music-library sharing; for browser audio evaluate an exact-model sender. Keep the generation in your test record because a shared product shape does not establish equivalent ToneRelay results.
SYMFONISK Table Lamp and Floor Lamp Windows audio
Separate the lamp’s lighting function from the Sonos speaker inside it. The table lamp’s two generations and the Floor Lamp Speaker are distinct roadmap models. None provides ordinary Bluetooth PC speaker input. Sonos may offer pairing configurations for related models, but that does not imply a Windows sender supports stereo or multi-room playback.
SYMFONISK Picture Frame PC audio and rear-speaker use
The picture frame speaker is a Sonos Wi-Fi speaker rather than a USB, Bluetooth or AUX PC speaker. A standalone Sonos room and a home-theater rear speaker use different playback paths. Direct AirPlay selection is unavailable when assigned as a surround, so check that configuration before treating a missing receiver as a Windows software issue.
Share your device model and Windows audio use case
If your planned speaker is the device you need, share its exact model, firmware, Windows version and listening task through the existing device request form. This helps assess hardware access and demand. A request is not a confirmed test, development commitment or release date.
ToneRelay today and what to do next
ToneRelay supports the full HomePod lineup: HomePod (1st generation), HomePod (2nd generation) and HomePod mini, for Windows audio on one speaker. Support for more AirPlay speakers is coming soon under the same ToneRelay brand and download. Additional supported models and the required release will be published after verification. Buying Pro does not enable a planned device or guarantee future compatibility.

Frequently asked questions
Can ToneRelay play PC audio on SYMFONISK today?
SYMFONISK support is Planned and has not been verified. Current compatibility is not guaranteed for any listed bookshelf, lamp or picture frame model.
Can I connect IKEA SYMFONISK to Windows using Bluetooth?
These SYMFONISK speakers use network audio and do not offer ordinary Bluetooth audio input. Sonos music playback and a compatible network sender are separate routes to consider.
Are both generations of the bookshelf and table lamp verified?
No. Bookshelf Gen 1, Bookshelf Gen 2, Table Lamp Gen 1 and Table Lamp Gen 2 are separate Planned entries. Neither generation is marked Verified or Testing.
Can a SYMFONISK rear speaker receive AirPlay directly?
Sonos does not offer direct AirPlay selection for speakers assigned as home-theater surrounds. Check the room configuration and the home-theater playback route instead; ToneRelay support is still unverified.
Do I need to buy ToneRelay to use the Sonos music library?
No. Sharing local music with Sonos is a Sonos feature and does not require ToneRelay. A ToneRelay purchase does not enable Planned SYMFONISK support.
When will ToneRelay support more AirPlay speakers?
Support is coming soon in an upcoming ToneRelay release. The exact supported models and required release will be announced after real-device verification. Coming soon is a release announcement, not a claim that every listed device already works.
Can I connect SYMFONISK Bookshelf Speaker (Gen 1) to Windows?
The first-generation IKEA bookshelf speaker uses the Sonos network ecosystem. For local PC songs, consider a shared Sonos music library; for live audio, a compatible Windows sender is required. It has no ordinary Bluetooth audio or AUX route. Check the product label so a Gen 2 result is not mistaken for a Gen 1 test. More AirPlay speaker support is coming soon. ToneRelay status for SYMFONISK Bookshelf Speaker (Gen 1): Planned; playback has not been verified and current compatibility is not guaranteed.
Can SYMFONISK Bookshelf Speaker (Gen 2) play Windows PC audio?
SYMFONISK Bookshelf Gen 2 can use supported Sonos music services and library playback. AirPlay receiver capability does not add a Windows system-output picker. Identify whether it is a standalone room or a surround before comparing sender results; rear-speaker assignment prevents direct AirPlay selection. More AirPlay speaker support is coming soon. ToneRelay status for SYMFONISK Bookshelf Speaker (Gen 2): Planned; playback has not been verified and current compatibility is not guaranteed.
How can I play PC audio on SYMFONISK Table Lamp Speaker (Gen 1)?
The original SYMFONISK lamp’s speaker uses Sonos network audio; the lamp function is not an audio input. Supported music services and shared files are practical routes. Live Windows sound needs a compatible sender, and testing a newer lamp or bookshelf speaker does not verify this model. More AirPlay speaker support is coming soon. ToneRelay status for SYMFONISK Table Lamp Speaker (Gen 1): Planned; playback has not been verified and current compatibility is not guaranteed.
Does SYMFONISK Table Lamp Speaker (Gen 2) work with Windows?
For the second-generation IKEA speaker lamp, complete Sonos setup and choose a route for the source: services or shared music files through Sonos, or a compatible sender for live Windows audio. Its lamp and shade configuration does not make it a Bluetooth PC speaker or an AUX receiver. More AirPlay speaker support is coming soon. ToneRelay status for SYMFONISK Table Lamp Speaker (Gen 2): Planned; playback has not been verified and current compatibility is not guaranteed.
Can I use SYMFONISK Picture Frame Speaker with a Windows PC?
The IKEA picture frame speaker uses Wi-Fi audio through Sonos. It has no ordinary Bluetooth audio or PC headphone input. You can control supported music playback and share local music with Sonos; live browser, game and notification audio requires a separate sending route. More AirPlay speaker support is coming soon. ToneRelay status for SYMFONISK Picture Frame Speaker: Planned; playback has not been verified and current compatibility is not guaranteed.
How do I connect SYMFONISK Floor Lamp Speaker to Windows?
The Floor Lamp Speaker is a Sonos network speaker, distinct from a bookshelf speaker on a floor stand. It does not offer ordinary Bluetooth audio or AUX input. Use supported Sonos music playback, or evaluate an exact-model Windows network sender for system audio. Do not infer sender stereo support from Sonos pairing features. More AirPlay speaker support is coming soon. ToneRelay status for SYMFONISK Floor Lamp Speaker: Planned; playback has not been verified and current compatibility is not guaranteed.
